A modular plug crimping tool, often referred to as an “EZ” or “End Pass Through” crimping tool, is a specialized tool designed for terminating Ethernet cables with modular connectors, such as RJ45 connectors. These connectors are commonly used in networking applications, including Ethernet cables. The EZ crimping tool is specifically designed for connectors that have a pass-through design, where the wire ends come out of the connector on both sides.

Here’s how to use an EZ or End Pass Through modular plug crimping tool:

  1. Prepare the Cable: Start by preparing the Ethernet cable you want to terminate. Ensure that the cable is untwisted and straightened, and that the wires are in the correct order according to the T568A or T568B wiring standards. Trim any excess wire to ensure the wires are of the right length.
  2. Select the Correct Connector: Choose the appropriate modular plug (usually an RJ45 connector) with a pass-through design. These connectors have holes on both ends for the wire ends to pass through.
  3. Insert the Wires: Carefully insert the wires into the connector, making sure that each wire goes into the correct slot according to the chosen wiring standard. The excess wire should protrude through the opposite end of the connector.
  4. Strip the Excess Wires: After inserting the wires, you may have excess wire sticking out from the connector. Use wire cutters or a specialized blade on the crimping tool (if it has one) to trim the excess wire, ensuring it’s flush with the end of the connector.
  5. Crimp the Connector: Place the connector with the inserted wires into the crimping tool. The crimping tool should have two sets of teeth, one for the front and one for the back of the connector. These teeth will press down on the connector, securing it in place and making contact with the wires.
  6. Squeeze the Handles: Squeeze the handles of the crimping tool firmly and evenly. This action will compress the connector onto the wires, creating a secure connection.
  7. Inspect and Test: After crimping, inspect the connector to ensure it’s properly attached to the wires. Make sure all the wires are securely in place, and there are no bent pins or damaged wires. It’s essential to check the continuity of the cable with a cable tester to confirm that the connection is correct and functional.

An EZ or End Pass Through crimping tool is designed to work specifically with connectors that have the pass-through design, ensuring a more straightforward and efficient termination process. It’s important to follow the wiring standards and pay attention to the proper crimping technique to create reliable Ethernet cable connections.
